Facility & Operations
The Japanese Ministry of Environment is responsible for setting standards and guidelines for animal welfare, including the care and keeping of animals in facilities. It also issues regulations and orders related to the establishment and operation of pet care facilities. Our facility meets or exceeds the standards set by the Ministry. Please explore our facility and operational
information.

Security
During the assessment, you will observe the fencing and dividers between spaces. The design effectively deters climbers, diggers, or other types of escape. There are cameras monitoring daily activities. We live on the premises for an extra sense of security.

Safety
The pet quarters are free of sharp objects, harmful chemicals, and objects that could be swallowed. Primary enclosures provide solid dividers between pets and the other pet guests, both for safety and so that your pet can relax and sleep without feeling challenged by pet neighbors. Common areas include barriers between runs high enough to prevent male dogs from urinating into adjacent runs. Floor surfaces offer sufficient traction even when wet. Power outlets are positioned several feet above ground level and are inaccessible to pets, and all power cords have a chew-proof metal cover installed. When shore power is degraded, battery backup power is used to operate air conditioners, fans, pumps, filters, lighting, and heaters. Areas are patrolled periodically for hazards. Firefighting equipment is installed.

Supervision
Pets are supervised frequently during the day by staff trained to recognize signs of illness, distress, lethargy, severe intestinal disorders, urinary problems, loss of appetite, coughing, sneezing, or discharges from the eyes or nose. Pet Holiday staff members are trained to recognize and evaluate such signs and seek veterinary assistance.

Sanitation
The facility is cleaned daily and is free of dirt, fecal accumulation, odors, and parasite infestation (flies, fleas, ticks). There is a strict disinfecting schedule with Bayer’s livestock grade Virkon-S chemical cleaner to prevent intestinal diseases like canine parvovirus. This disease is spread when dogs come into contact with contaminated surfaces. New vaccines are now available to combat this disease, but until the dog population develops immunity to the disease, it will remain a potential problem.

Health Care
1. Water: Clean drinking water is regularly replenished and readily available to pets.
2. Food: Feeding procedures vary according to each pet’s needs. Refrigeration and freezers are available. Please bring enough of your pet's favorite food to supply the duration of the stay. We maintain a stock of the most popular brands, like Orijen and Acana, to serve at your request for an additional fee.
3. Veterinary services: To maintain continuity of care, it is preferred to use your pet’s veterinarian. We will choose a veterinarian in the local area when needed. The customer is financially responsible for any pet's required veterinary care during the stay.
4. Immunization requirements: Dogs should be immunized against rabies, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, parvovirus (DHLPP), and Bordetella. Cats should be vaccinated against rabies, panleukopenia, distemper, feline rhinotracheitis, calici virus, and pneumonitis (FVRCPP). When immunization records are not provided, then the pet owner is a guarantor of the fact.
5. Medication policies and procedures: Please provide medication and advise us in advance of the nature of the problem and the type and frequency of medication administration. Remember, if your pet takes heartworm preventive medication, it must be continued during boarding.
6. Parasite control: Fleas and ticks are present in Japan. Please utilize procedures for controlling these parasites (pre-entry examinations for boarders, sprays, dips, etc.). -
Provisions for Pet Comfort
1. Temperature control: Indoor temperature and humidity are controlled and maintained at about 22 degrees Celsius and 50% humidity within healthful, comfortable limits. Special arrangements will be made if you have an older pet or a pet that requires a warmer, cooler, humid, or drier climate than is usually provided.
2. Protection from the elements: The facility uses standard shipping containers, which provide a structure to withstand natural disasters common in the area, like earthquakes and typhoons. The exercise area is enclosed by walls and a roof, providing shelter from wind, rain, snow, and direct sunlight. Powerful jet fans move cool mist quickly through the dog run during the hot summer, while heated pet panels are installed on wall areas to provide warmth in the cold winter.
3. Ventilation: Dehydrating air conditioners ventilate all indoor areas with no drafts, keeping rooms comfortable and minimizing the spread of airborne bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens.
4. Light: Lighting is maintained at comfortable levels indoors during the day and in the dog run during the evening.
5. Bedding: We provide resting platforms, bedding, and crates. Used bedding is machine-washed daily in a Steam and Sanitation cycle. Crates and platforms are wiped down daily using an alkali or Virkon-S cleaning solution.
6. Sleeping Quarters: Indoor resting and sleeping areas are clean and dry, with adequate space for your pet to stand comfortably, turn around easily, and stretch out.
